Community Education refers to the systematic involvement of schools in the general process of community improvement. It stresses an expanded role for public education and refers to a process of identifying a wide range of citizen and neighborhood needs and connecting such needs with resources.

Overview:

  • All classes/activities are offered in the afternoon and evening
  • Organized into three semesters, beginning in September, February and June
  • Serving the community for over 30 years
  • A collaboration between Metro Public Schools, Metro Council and the Mayor
  • Cost-effective: the program is partially supported by tuition that is paid by participants
  • School facilities are used continuously throughout the year
  • Providing qualified instructors from the educational and business communities.

Elements of Community Education:

  • Increased involvement and participation of citizens in the democratic process
  • Revitalized delivery of services
  • Kindergarten through high school schooling
  • Expanded opportunities for children and youth of pre-school, school and post-school age
  • Expanded opportunities for adults

Our Goals:

• To continually increase educational opportunities for all citizens.
To provide both non-credit and credit activities/classes that meet the    current needs of adults.
• To provide opportunities for school-aged students:

  1. That improve academic skills
  2. That will allow them to experience non-academic enrichment activities.

• To provide the community with facilities for meetings.

Citizen involvement is the key to making the community education process work.
