Student late arrivals and early dismissals
Submitted by Mrs. Forrest, Alpha Office A-G
As we begin a new school year, it is important all students are aware of attendance policies. Students arriving to school anytime during 1st period (7:15 to 8:11) are to report directly to 1st period. You are not required to sign in if you arriving during 1st period. Students arriving after 1st period MUST sign in with their alpha office. By not signing in with the office when you arrive after 1st period, we do not know to change your absence for the day to a tardy. Students arriving to school after first period who do not sign in through their alpha office, will be marked absent for the day. Students with the last name A-G regardless of grade, report to Mrs. Forrest and Mr. Brown’s office located in the Vocational building across from the Guidance office. Students with the last name H-Z regardless of grade, report to Mrs. Gray, Dr. Kessler, and Dr. Currie’s office which is on the 2nd floor of the main building with a room number of 220. Any student arriving after 10:45 will be considered “absent” for the day, as they will not have attended the minimum number of hours required to be counted present. On the same account, students leaving school prior to 10:45 that do not return will also be marked absent for the day.
Students who need to be dismissed early, should bring a note from home stating such with a time the student is to be released in addition to a phone number where a parent can be reached to confirm the dismissal. Students will receive a dismissal sheet when they bring their notes to their office and may leave from their classroom at the appointed dismissal time noted on their dismissal sheets. Students who are dismissed early and then return to school MUST sign back in through their alpha office. Parents who do not send a note for early dismissal with their student will be required to physically come into the school to their student’s alpha office to have them dismissed. No exceptions will be made. Parents unable to come into the building should send a note with their student.
Students who are absent from school should bring their excuse notes to their alpha office first thing in the morning upon their return to school. They will receive an official excused absence slip that they should present to all their teachers throughout the day. This form can be discarded at the end of the day. Absences of more than 3 days require a doctor’s note to be excused. Board recognized excused absences are the following: personal illness, family illness, death in the family (not more than 3 days), recognized religious holidays, court appearance, doctor. or dental appointments, documented college visits (3 one day visits only). Parents may call the school 298-8400 ext. 2004 to report a student’s absence but this is not required. Students are still required to bring a note on their return if a parent calls in their absence.
No students will be allowed to sign in or out through the main office. Parents arriving at school to have their student dismissed should check in with their student’s alpha office and can expect a minor delay while their student is located and called to the office. For this reason, a note brought to school by the student and taken to their alpha office first thing in the morning for dismissal is suggested. Vocational building entrance and parking are available off Glen Echo Dr. (across from the post office).
All students’ notes for late arrival, early dismissals, and absences are kept in student files and are available for parent review upon request. |
