~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Support Our Schools (SOS) is a program that generates funds for our schools by partnering with real estate professionals!
If you plan to buy, sell or refinance your home this year, don't miss out on this fantastic opportunity to help our public schools.
FAQ's:  The questions most frequently asked about the program are:
How do I participate?
1.  Before you buy a home, sell your home, or refinance your home, make the decision to participate in the SOS program.
2.  Choose real estate professionals (brokers, lenders, closing attorneys) from our SOS Partner List.  If you have selected a professional who is not on a Partner List, ask if he/she will participate in the program.
3.  The SOS real estate professional partner(s) you have chosen to work with have already agreed to donate a portion of their commission on your behalf, at closing!  (See recommended amounts below).
4.  At closing, a check will be issued to the Nashville Alliance for Public Education for processing along with a letter designating how your donation is to be applied. You indicate which school and which program at the school (art, P.E., library, technology, after-school clubs, etc.) you want your real estate professional's donation to go to!
Why is the money going to the Nashville Alliance for Public Education?
This non-profit organization has the staff and experience to process private donations for public schools with no administrative costs to our schools.  This saves our parents, teachers and administrators time and energy that can be focused on our classrooms.
Will my school know I participated?
Your school will receive a copy of the letter being sent to the
Nashville Alliance for Public Education.  The letter will contain your name, address and email address.  It will also contain the names of the Partners who participated in the program.
Who receives the receipt for the donation?
The people buying, selling or refinancing their home will receive the donation receipt.  You will need to consult your tax advisor to determine how this will impact you.
How will this money be spent?
The SOS program requires that you specify in the donation letter how the money will be spent.  You must list the name of the school(s) you wish to receive the money and the program(s) to which it should be applied. Multiple schools may receive any portion or portions of your donation.  Multiple programs at each school may receive any portion or portions of your donation.  (Ex.:  You may have more than one child at different schools.  You can allocate a certain amount of your donation for each school.  And, you may allocate a certain amount of your donation to go to one or more programs within each school).
What programs are in need of additional funds at my school?
Each school is working on creating a list of programs in need of these additional funds.  We will put that list on this site when we have it.  But, rest assured, if you aren't sure which program to specify, your school will know!  You can allow the school to make that choice for you, if you prefer.
Can family, friends and neighbors participate?
Absolutely!!!
