Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools will provide every student with the foundation of knowledge , skills , and character necessary to Excel in higher Education, work , and LIFE .”

Standards:
This is a list of what you need to know this year. Take a look at them and pay close attention to what is written in the orange box to the left of the screen.

Syllabus: This is an outline or calendar of what work will be done for each quarter. It has homework assignments, test dates…etc. If you lose the copy you were given in class, there is a copy of it here for you to print.

Readings: Reading is a vital part of Social Studies. Understanding what you are reading and recalling the information you have learned from the reading are all very important. The FACT FINDER that is attached here is a way to help you find the FOUNDATIONAL FACTS of what you are studying. That is just another way of saying the MAIN IDEA of the topic being studied.  Take notes as you read, writing down important people, places, ideas, and events that you come across in the reading. Then after you finish use the notes to help you complete the FACT FINDER.

Textbook: The textbook is where YOU go to study on your own. It is an important part of understanding the deeper ideas and concepts we will study in class. In this section you will find a complete AUDIO edition of the class textbook. Download these or listen to them online. There is also a collection of power points that outline each chapter of the textbook. There is also an INTERACTIVE READER version of the textbook. It is condensed version of the textbook that asks questions throughout the reading text to help you interact with the information being covered. Textbook Preps are take-home (open book) tests that cover information from the textbook. If you need an additional copy, they are all here.

Videos: Most of the videos listed here are extra. We will not watch these in class, but they are here as an extra help in understanding the various topics we will cover.

Transparencies: These are copies of the various maps, and geography skills we will practice in class from time–to-time. If you are absent, or you miss something in class, there is a copy of all the activities we will do in class here.

Lectures: The power point lectures from class are here. If you are absent and need to complete a lecture outline, they are all listed here. They are missing video clips that the classroom version had. Other than that they are exactly the power point used in class.

Amazing Race: We will be using three different episodes of the Amazing Race television program as an outline of our study of World Geography this year. In this section you will find links to CULTURE GRAMS for most of the locations visited on the shows.

Extras: These activities are a way for you to take responsibility for YOUR OWN LEARNING. It is an OPPORTUNITY for you to find what interests you outside of what we study in class. You get to decide what it is about Social Studies that you want to study.

Tennessee: These activities will help in knowing about and understanding your state.
