MNPS is fortunate to have loyal and committed community partners. Through PENCIL Foundation, Alignment Nashville, Nashville Alliance for Public Education, the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, and a long list of non-profit organizations and educational institutions, the district is able to offer students opportunities that would not otherwise be possible.
Specific examples:
- CMA donated 675 musical instruments to MNPS as part of a partnership with the Nashville Alliance for Public Education
- A private-public partnership for funding for a new professional development center for MNPS coordinated by the Nashville Alliance resulted in the opening of the Martin Professional Development Center this past summer
- Alignment Nashville has organized more than 100 non-profit and community groups to work on Alignment projects that are directly tied to MNPS strategic goals and initiatives that benefit students
- PENCIL Foundation coordinated more than 500 community/school partnerships in 2007-2008 and managed a network of more than 7,000 volunteers who provided 85,147 hours of direct support to MNPS.
- Friends of Metro Schools, an independent, grassroots advocacy organization, formed this past spring to make the district’s budget, and having adequate and predictable funding for schools, a priority.
