Middle College High is an “Option School” for students who show potential for academic success a and have a desire to show responsibility by taking ownership for their education. Our school is for students in grades 10-12.
In Middle College High School, students may:
- Earn their high school diplomas and post-secondary credits at the same time.
- Attend high school on a college campus in a unique academic environment.
- Participate in a rigorous and challenging curriculum.
- Receive academic advice from Metro Nashville Public School teachers who act in a dual capacity of teacher/advisor.
- Receive one-on-one counseling from a Metro Nashville certificated guidance counselor.
Middle College High School is for students who want a change from the traditional high school; MCHS is not an Alternative School, and is not designed for students with discipline problems! Students accepted into this program must have:
- The ability to complete advanced work successfully as well as intrinsic motivation.
- A great level of social maturity and personal responsibility since off- campus lunch is permissible.
Middle College High School students will:
- Take all of their classes on the campus of Nashville State Community College and will not be enrolled in their “zoned” schools
- Take high school classes taught by certificated Metro Nashville Public School teachers and college level classes from the faculty of Nashville State Community College
- Use a flexible class schedule/time
- Take rigorous high school courses in English, Math, Science and Social Studies
- Take college courses that will also count toward a high school diploma. These courses may also apply toward associates' degrees, technical certifications or bachelor of science degrees. NOTE: Students must score a minimum of 19 on the ACT or have successful results in the COMPASS test administered by Nashville State in order to enroll in college level classes
Students may apply to Middle College at NSCC by:
- First completing an application that includes a copy of their current transcript, End of Course Test scores, TCAP scores, PSAT, PLAN and ACT scores, if taken, and two letters of recommendation.
- Next, contacting the Middle College office to ensure that all parts of the application have been received.
- Finally, participating in a personal interview with the Middle College representative(s).
