  • Assisting parents/guardians in communicating with school personnel.
  • Connecting families with community resources and services.

School Social Workers address the following issues with student and their families:

  • School adjustment and performance issues
  • Behavior and conduct concerns
  • Developing positive peer relationships
  • Difficult situations at home
  • Needs for community resources and assistance
  • Information and referrals for parents and children
  • Abuse (Physical, emotional and sexual)
  • Adjustment issues

Anyone can make a referral to the School Social Worker on behalf of a child or family, but the School Social Worker will always contact the child’s parent/guardian to obtain permission to work with a child before any services are offered. Teachers, principals, school personnel, and other community agencies often make referrals for social work services. Parents and children can also make their own referrals by contacting the School Social Worker about any needs or concerns that they might have. All referrals are confidential, and parents and children are encouraged to refer themselves when needs or issues are identified.
