Philosophy

The Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools recognize foreign languages as a vital part of every child’s education, just as NO Child Left Behind has identified foreign languages as a core subject. At the heart of human experience are language and communication. Our students must be prepared to meet the challenges of a pluralistic American society and a changing global economy. Therefore, we must educate students who are linguistically and culturally equipped to communicate successfully at home and abroad. We foresee a future where students will be proficient in English and at least one other language, modern or classical. With the focus on real language proficiency, MNPS students will meet the future’s challenges equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary to use world languages in their lives.
