Ms. Todd's Biography

Ms. Todd received her Masters of Library Science from Trevecca University in 2003. She has experience in a research laboratory and holds an undergraduate degree in Food and Nutrition from Middle Tennessee State University.  As an active member of the Tennessee Association of School Librarians, she is on the Volunteer State Book Award Young Adult selection committee.

Ms Todd won the 2009 Innovative Library Program for her VSBA reading program.  Each year participating students go on a fieldtrip to various sites around Nashville and to the Main Public Library.

In addition to promoting good books, Ms. Todd teaches research skills.  Students at the middle school level are moving from "learning to read" to "reading to learn."  Therefore, they are learning to scan for facts, organize information and use information.  Knowing Rose Park students go to a variety of high schools, they are taught how to list keywords and to refine their search to prepare for using databases.  Students become familiar with using Tennessee Electronic Library, a free online database provided to Tennesseans.  By using color coded research sheets, students keep good bibliographic records and can easily cite their sources.  These basic skills are designed to prepare them for college or their career choice.  Check the Research Skills page for tips!
