General 2013/2014 Guidelines for State-mandated Home School Testing

The Davidson County Home School Office has furnished name and address information to the Assessment and Evaluation Department only for use in notifying Home School parents/guardians about required state-mandated testing.
State law provides that independent Home School students in grade 9 (ONLY) shall be administered the same State Board of Education approved End of Course test required of public school students. Home School students registered with the Metropolitan Nashville Board of Education in the category listed above are to be tested at the school that they would attend if they were a regular metro student.
Testing this spring only applies to students who are being instructed in Algebra 1
If your Home School student is currently being instructed in Algebra 1 (ONLY),
please contact Jim Schwarz at Group Testing: 291-6489.
I will send you information packet about the test and your zoned school.
Testing will occur on Monday, May 5, 2014, for Algebra 1
If your Home School student is NOT being taught Algebra 1,
you are not required to take any action; please disregard this letter.
THERE IS NO OTHER GRADE 9-12 HOME SCHOOL TESTING
BESIDES THAT LISTED FOR ALGEBRA 1
Testing of Home School Students in Grades 5 and 7 (and 6th and 8th Absentees)
Spring 2013/2014 TCAP Achievement Test
The Davidson County Home School office has furnished name and address information to the Research, Assessment, and Evaluation Department only for use in notifying Home School parents/guardians about required state-mandated testing.
State law provides that Home School students in grades 5 and 7 (ONLY - except see NOTE below) shall be administered the same State Board of Education approved standardized tests required of public school students.
The required test is the TCAP Achievement Test for each of these grades. Independent Home School students registered with the Metropolitan Nashville Board of Education Home School office are to be tested at the school that they would attend if they were a regular metro student (church school students are to be tested by the church school).
*NOTE: Also, certain students who were 5th and 7th grade Home School students last year and missed the test arerequired to take this year's test. Those students will take the 5th or 7th grade test,even though they may be 6th or 8th graders now. Also, certain 5th and 7th grade students had scores last year that require retesting this year.
All tests will be administered without charge to Home School students in grades 5 and 7 (and 6 & 8 absentees).
Pre-registration is not required, and transportation will not be furnished. Parents of Home School students in grade 5 may be present when the testing occurs, but both the parent and the Home School student will be under the supervision of the Test Administrator.
2013/2014 TCAP Achievement Test dates: April 29 – May 6, 2014. Schools follow a state-mandated testing schedule.

Important: Enclosed you will find a "Notification Sheet" for each Home School student that will be tested.
It lists the school where testing is to take place and the contact person at that school.
Please call that person to arrange testing for your student(s).
Your student(s) will be tested during the regular testing sessions at that school.
The student(s) should take the Notification Sheet to school in order to be tested.
*ONLY HOME SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THE CATEGORIES NAMED ABOVE WILL BE TESTED
HOME SCHOOL STUDENTS IN GRADES OTHER THAN 5 AND 7 (and 6 & 8 absentees)
and PRIVATE SCHOOL STUDENTS WILL NOT BE TESTED
Scores for Home School students will be sent to you via US mail in June or July.
