Metro Nashville Public Schools uses a zoning system to assign students to the school that is nearest to them. You can verify which school falls within your zone by using our Zone Finder. However, if you would prefer to send your child to a school other than your zoned school, you can fill out an Optional Application to your preferred school.
Before you apply to a school, you should take the time to explore and visit schools that you are interested in. Once you are ready to apply, you will need to go through our application process.
This is how it works...
Optional Application Process:
- You should attend our School Choice Festival on September 24
- We suggest participating in Walk-Through Tuesdays or scheduling a school visit
- You can submit an Optional Application at any point during the year
- You can apply to a maximum of 7 schools
- You will need to rank your choices in order of preference, 1 to 7
Be aware that the option to apply to any given school is subject to the number of spaces that are available in that school. You can view the availability of each school HERE.
Metro Nashville Public Schools PreK has an entirely different application process. Parents who are seeking to submit an application for PreK should follow the link below.
