The Data Warehouse contains private information about students and staff who are or have been enrolled or worked within Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools. The student information contained in the Data Warehouse is protected under the Federal Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). FERPA is a Federal law that protects the privacy of student records. The definition of "record" is broad and includes anything that provides information in a documentary form. Letters, memos and reports on paper are obviously documents, but so are photographs, tape recordings, maps and information stored electronically, as on a computer disc. This policy pertains to the security of student, personnel, and financial records and data stored within MNPS’ Data Warehouse system.
