Meet Your Student School Board Members

Ava Dakash, Senior Student Board Member

Student board member Ava Dakash

Ava Dakash is a senior at Martin Luther King, Jr. Academic Magnet High School. During her first two years of high school, Dakash served as publicity manager for the National French Honor Society at MLK, led and participated in civic engagement projects through the Rhizome Civic Service Fellowship, and served as a Senate delegate at the Youth in Government Capitol Conference. She is also a member of the National Beta Club and enjoys crocheting and playing badminton in her free time.

"I believe every student deserves a voice in decisions that impact our lives,” she wrote in her application. “As my goal is to be an attorney, I love and know the importance of representation and advocacy of others."

Dakash attended Old Center Elementary School and Head Magnet Middle School before starting at MLK. She will serve as student board member until she graduates in 2027.

Hannah Said is a junior at Hume-Fogg Academic Magnet High School. During her first two years of high school, Said served as a student leader in multiple organizations at Hume-Fogg and in the city, including working with students in an after-school program she started.

"I commend the time and effort the Board has dedicated to inspiring youth advocacy within schools, and I take deep pride and honor in being that voice,” she said. “I hope these next two years as a student school board member reflect my deep commitment to social justice and the progress I hope to achieve."

She will serve as student board member until she graduates in 2028.
