Graduating Seniors Celebrate Full Scholarships to Local Colleges at University MNPS Signing Day

Scholarship recipients sign the Signing Day banner

More than 500 people - MNPS graduating seniors, family members, and educators - came out Saturday for University MNPS Signing Day, a celebration of the students who have earned full-ride scholarships to Nashville’s colleges and universities.

The crowd filled the auditorium and lobby of the Frist Art Museum, where representatives of the colleges and universities greeted the students and gave them sweatshirts, pennants, and other gifts while high school counselors and principals handed out University MNPS graduation stoles.

The students also heard from MNPS Superintendent Dr. Adrienne Battle and Mayor Freddie O’Connell during a speaking program that had to be held twice to accommodate the huge crowd.

“Students, your work ethic and your dedication are an inspiration,” Dr. Battle said. “It makes me feel so good to see you stepping up and grabbing hold of these opportunities to continue your education on full-ride scholarships from our wonderful Nashville higher education partners. You make us all proud, and I’m excited to see everything you’ll achieve from here.”

More than 400 graduating seniors have earned scholarships to Belmont, Fisk, Lipscomb, Nashville State, Tennessee College of Applied Technology, Tennessee State, Trevecca, or Vanderbilt through the district’s University MNPS portfolio of partnerships with each of those schools. The University of Tennessee, Knoxville announced last week that it will join University MNPS in 2027.
