2019-20 Optional School Applications

Metro Nashville Public Schools uses a zoning system to assign students to the school that is nearest to them. You can verify which school falls within your zone by using our Zone Finder. However, if you would prefer to send your child to a school other than your zoned school, you can fill out an Optional Application to your preferred school.

Before you apply to a school, you should take the time to explore and visit schools that you are interested in. Once you are ready to apply, you will need to go through our application process.

This is how it works...

Optional Application Process:

  • You can submit an Optional Application at any point during the year

  • You can apply to a maximum of seven schools

  • You will need to rank your choices in order of preference, 1 to 7

If you are new to Metro Schools and want to apply to an optional school for the current school year, you must submit a paper application. Please download the application and return it to the MNPS Family Information Center at 2601 Bransford Avenue, 37204.

Metro Nashville Public Schools Pre-K has an entirely different application process. Parents who are seeking to submit an application for Pre-K should follow the link below.

We understand that selecting a school for you child can be stressful. Our goal is to make the process as easy as possible, so if you have any questions, read this school choice FAQ.
