MNPS Athletics and The FANS – Partners Create a Foundation for Success
The North Sports Report accompanied The Foundation for Athletics in Nashville Schools, Inc. as it delivered donation checks to schools across the district. The FANS is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization supporting and promoting athletics programs in Nashville’s public schools. To date, The FANS has delivered 31 checks, and will continue making the rounds.
The FANS’ funds will be utilized by each school to fit the specific needs within the school’s athletic department, and each school receives an amount proportionate to the percentage of the school’s enrollment that qualifies for federal assistance.
For updates from The FANS and to see photos at each school, check The FANS facebook page – The FANS (Foundation for Athletics in Nashville Schools). Donations to The FANS can be made online.
Middle School Wrestling City Champions
Congratulations to the Goodlettsville Middle School Trojans who took home the City Championship. The Goodlettsville grapplers proudly display the trophy in the school’s main office.
Middle School Basketball City Championships
The North Sports Report was blown away by another great sporting event last week as I visited the Middle School City Championships at Maplewood High School’s gymnasium. The place was packed full to the rafters with enthusiastic fans; the cheerleading squads showed the precision, teamwork and athleticism that exemplifies the outstanding squads we have across MNPS (a special shout out to the Oliver Middle School Bulldog mascot who was cutting a rug on the hardwood); and the basketball teams are truly extraordinary. Seriously, I would not be surprised if college scouts were in the crowd or request video of the games… Our players are that good!
For the record: In Girls Basketball, H.G. Hill Middle School won the Championship; East Nashville finished second; Wright Middle Finished third and Haynes Middle finished fourth. Congratulations!
In Boys Basketball, John Early Middle won the championship; Oliver Middle earned second place; Haynes Middle finished third; and Madison Middle finished fourth. Congratulations to all our basketball players, cheerleaders, coaches and fans. We look forward to seeing you in the North Sports Report next year hoopin’ on the hardwood for MNPS high schools.
Host with the Most… Fine Dining
A special North Sports Report shout out to Bailey Middle School for hosting the Basketball City Tournament. I have experienced my share of concession stand fare over the years, and few can match the menu, service and food quality of the Bailey Middle School operated stand. From chili cheese fries and chili dogs, to fresh popcorn and nachos, the food was fantastic. I recommend the Corn Dog (yes, they even had corn dogs). Both of the corn dogs I ordered (and devoured) were exquisite – fried to perfection and delicious.
