Tour the new John Early Museum, the ONLY Museum School in Tennessee!
John Early Museum Magnet Middle is really taking this museum magnet thing to the next level. In fact, it’s the first of its kind in the entire state of Tennessee.
John Early Museum Magnet Middle school is having the grand opening of Tennessee’s first officially sanctioned museum within a school on Thursday, March 14 at 10:00 a.m. and you are invited to witness this historic event.
African masks, traditional Japanese costumes, and dolls from around the world represent just a fraction of the artifacts recently donated to John Early by the Scarritt Bennett Center. This collection will just be the beginning of the museum within a school. The vision of John Early Museum is to showcase the community’s items and historic artifacts.
Principal Risè Pope has even donated her own items from historic North Nashville High. We can’t wait to let the Nashville Community tour our school to see the artifacts and our students hard at work giving tours.
Speaking of students, not only will the community be able to take part in this museum, but the John Early students will truly take ownership of the museum while working directly with the artifacts as they are unpacked and cataloged. They will also help develop a collections management policy, develop docent tours for other school groups, families, and the community. They will act as ambassadors for John Early outside of the school’s walls and into the community.
Come to the grand opening and see for yourself!
