Stratford senior scientists turn into teachers at Hattie Cotton STEM Elementary

Stratford STEM Magnet seniors teach elementary students at Hattie Cotton STEM Magnet These Stratford students know their stuff. They’ve spent four years doing research with Vanderbilt scientists and are taking their work on the road.

Seniors from Stratford STEM Magnet were at Hattie Cotton STEM Magnet last night teaching science lessons to elementary students. They developed full lessons and activities based on the elementary science standards and presented them last night.

Lessons included:

  • Animal Adaptations: Survival of the Fittest
  • The LIVE Water Cycle
  • CandySaurs
  • How Stars are Created
  • The Lighting Beauty: Aurora
  • Ink Chromatography: My Pen is What Color?

Stratford STEM Magnet seniors teach elementary students at Hattie Cotton STEM MagnetThese lessons came after school at PTO Night, so Hattie Cotton parents got to watch their young children learn and also see a glimpse of where their STEM education is headed. It’s all part of a service learning project for the Stratford seniors, who work with the Vanderbilt Center for Science Outreach.
