Top volunteers earn big prizes

Way to step up, Nashville. When ONE Nashville put out the call for volunteers - and put up big prizes - you answered in a big way.

The winners of the ONE Nashville volunteer contest are:

Individual Dawn Hinton

Dawn: "I have worked with McGavock High School’s band and the chorus for many years, and it is very rewarding to see the students grow and improve in their talents. We have wonderful parent involvement at McGavock, and I hope even more become involved during this important time in their children’s lives."

School Stratford

Principal Michael Steele: "With the support that our school receives from parents and the community we are not surprised at the hours that have been logged by volunteers. We appreciate the recognition and are thankful for those who support what our teachers are doing every day."

Business Angelo's Picnic Pizza

Nick LaMattina, owner: "We are honored to be recognized for our support of Nashville’s public schools. My wife and I feel strongly we have a responsibility to support our area schools and this was a great opportunity for our entire staff to also participate."

Prizes include a $1,000 donation to Stratford, a $1,000 Walmart gift card for Dawn and a full-page ad in "The Tennessean" to Angelo's Picnic Pizza (which looks delicious, by the way).

We love all of our volunteers. Thank you for your endless support of your Metro schools!
