Middle schoolers bring technology to their community
Technology binds us all, and for students at John Early Museum Magnet Middle, it's brought them closer to their community. The students have been hard at work upgrading the computer lab at the Cumberland View apartment complex. Mr. Avery Finch, Career & Technical teacher at John Early, chose six students to help upgrade computers that had very limited memory and no productivity software.
They installed more RAM and Microsoft Office in every computer. Afterward, the students grouped up and began building desks for the computers to sit on. Each student worked vigorously putting screws and metal pieces together. It took several attempts, but the students communicated with each other in order to create the correct build, demonstrating higher order thinking processes.
We are very proud of these students, three of whom live in the Cumberland View community. The lab is now complete with a community ready to become tech savvy.
There will be a dedication of the Computer lab and Resource Room on May 23, 2013 at 2:00pm. The community is welcome to attend.
