A full ride to historic Fisk University? Sounds good!

How does a four-year, full ride scholarship to one of Nashville's most historic universities sound? Ten students from Metro Schools have received just that. Fisk University President Dr. James Williams is making the rounds to Metro high schools this month announcing recipients of the Erastus Milo Cravath Presidential Scholarship. It covers tuition, room, board, fees and up to $1,000 for textbooks each year for four years.

Monday Dr. Williams visited Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Magnet High School with the good news. Other stops this month include Hume-Fogg, MLK, East Nashville Magnet and LEAD Academy.

The students are:

  • Kiara Wesson - Pearl-Cohn
  • Richard Buchanan - Pearl-Cohn
  • Melody Beck - Hume-Fogg
  • Braxtin Thomas - Hume-Fogg
  • Brennan Steele - MLK
  • Regina Tisdale - MLK
  • Novell Carter, Jr. - East Nashville
  • Khayla Clark - East Nashville
  • Jiah Thomas - LEAD
  • Tyree Williams - LEAD

NASHVILLE, TN, SEPTEMBER 10, 2013 – Fisk University President H. James Williams is touring local high schools and awarding scholarships to outstanding students.  The first stop on his tour was Pearl-Cohn High School where he awarded Erastus Milo Cravath Presidential Scholarships to Kiara Wesson and Richard Buchanan.

Erastus Milo Cravath Presidential Scholarships cover tuition, room, board, fees and up to $1,000 for textbooks each year for four years.  Recipients must have an unweighted cumulative grade point average of 3.70 to 4.00 and minimum ACT scores of 28 or SAT scores of 1860.

The next stops on President Williams’ tour of Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools and the scholarship recipients are:

  • September 11th, 3:00 pm, Hume-Fogg Magnet High School – Erastus Milo Cravath Presidential Scholarships to Melody Beck and Braxtin Thomas.  A Provost’s Scholarship that covers tuition for four years will be awarded to DeShawne Trimble.
  • September 19th, 11:20 am, Martin Luther King, Jr. Academic Magnet High School- Erastus Milo Cravath Presidential Scholarships to Brennan Steele and Regina Tisdale.
  •  September 24th, 9:30 am, East Nashville Magnet School- Erastus Milo Cravath Presidential Scholarships to Novell Carter, Jr. and Khayla Clark.
  • September 30, 9:00 am, LEAD Academy- Erastus Milo Cravath Presidential Scholarships to Jiah Thomas and Tyree Williams.

In October, President Williams will visit Hillsboro High School to award scholarships to outstanding students.  According to Williams, “this is one of several tactics that Fisk is undertaking in our community to recruit talented students to Fisk.  We are committed to forming viable partnerships with the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools, private schools and youth organizations throughout the Middle Tennessee Region.  We want to help keep Tennessee talent in Tennessee.”
