NSA Presents... Ruby Amanfu
Yet another one-of-a-kind opportunity for students in a Metro school to meet with and pick the brain of a professional. It just so happens that this professional is an amazing singer-songwriter [EDIT: and Hume-Fogg graduate] making a name for herself on the national music scene. This one is best told by the students and faculty at NSA, so here is their official press release:
We are delighted to announce that a new series entitled “NSA Presents…” will launch on Oct. 23 at 1:00pm in the Roxy Theatre on the Nashville School of the Arts campus. This series is designed to support our school’s mission to prepare students for life after school by bringing in artists, musicians, actors, etc. in an “Inside the Actors Studio/CMT Crossroads” format. Our students will research and prepare for a very in-depth interview with these artistic individuals, and will perform for our guests to showcase their talents and abilities. Students will also manage the entire production from the lights, videography, & stage management.
Our inaugural guest on Oct. 23 is Ruby Amanfu, a local stand-out singer/artist/songwriter who has sealed her name in the Nashville music scene for nearly a decade. She has sung with Brittany Howard from the Alabama Shakes, been a part of the local favorite duo Sam and Ruby, as well as a singer in Jack White’s band. We are beyond excited to have Ms. Amanfu be our first guest, as her wisdom, experience and artistry will make for an incredible hour and a half of dialogue and performances.
Wells Adams, the morning radio personality on Lightning 100, will be moderating our initial event. Mr. Adams is another Nashville staple that will bring a unique perspective and an incredible talent to our “NSA Presents...” experience. Aside from entertaining his listeners on their daily morning commute, Wells also co-creates, produces, programs, and hosts a weekly local show called “the615,” which focuses exclusively on the local music scene.
As Julia Hoge, NSA guidance counselor & organizer of the “NSA Presents…” series describes, “It is both our duty and mission as Nashville's arts school to provide each student with a complete education, which includes helping them find ways to translate their passions into careers and exposing them to professionals who have created their own artistic success. “
Please note that this program is designed as an educational event for students only, and is not open to the general public.
Future “NSA Presents…” guests will be announced in the future.
You can apply to Nashville School of the Arts starting on October 31.
