Tournament Time – Winding Toward State Championships
It’s tournament time. Time to survive and advance … or dominate and advance … or look back on a successful season as it comes to an abrupt end. The pressure mounts as mere games transform into winner-take-all/win-or-go-home affairs. Here is an update on the tournament schedules.
Cross-Country The State Cross-Country Championships are Saturday November 2 at the Steeplechase Course here in Nashville. Cane Ridge phenom Bailee Dean smoked the competition and crushed the meet record at the Metro Cross Country Championship last week as she finished approximately ½ a light year ahead of the competition.
The schedule for the state meet on November 2: Bailee Dean and the AAA Girls will run at 10:00am; the AAA Boys will run at 10:45am; the A-AA Girls start at 1:40pm; and the A-AA Boys start at 2:20pm. MNPS will have team and individual contenders in all four races.
Volleyball The State Volleyball Tournament starts October 23 at several sites in Murfreesboro, primarily at MTSU. The Hume-Fogg Lady Blue Knights captured the District 10AA and Region 5AA Championships and dominated CPA in the sectionals on Thursday and play in the state tournament on Wednesday October 23 at 9:00am at the Murphy Center on the campus of MTSU. Congratulations and good luck in the state tournament!
The Overton Lady Bobcats finished the regular season undefeated and won the 12AAA District Championship before their season ended in the Region Semifinals. Congratulations to all our Volleyball student-athletes.
Soccer The State Girls Soccer Tournament runs October 30 through November 2 in Murfreesboro. The Cane Ridge Lady Ravens won District 12AAA, and the Hume-Fogg Lady Blue Knights won District 10A-AA. Each plays at home Tuesday in the Regional semifinals. The Overton Lady Bobcats (runner-up in District 12AAA) travel to Franklin Tuesday for their Regional semifinal game.
Congratulations to the Cane Ridge Ravens for capturing the 9th Grade City Championship!
Alumni Alert: Moc Blocks Punt
The North Sports Report was in attendance at the Chattanooga Mocs homecoming game against Furman on Saturday when 2011 Hume-Fogg graduate and former Hillwood football star A.J. Hampton slashed through the line, extended his arms and blocked a punt. The NSR was seated beside A.J.’s sister as A.J. not only blocked the punt but also recovered it. Needless to say, it was a very exciting moment in the NSR section of the stadium!
Alumni Alert: Hilltopping Burro Kicks up his Heels on National TV
Did you see 2013 Hillsboro graduate Joseph Occhipinti on ESPN2 last week kicking and punting for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers? Awesome!
