School Choice Spotlight: Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Magnet High School

Student at keyboardPearl-Cohn is the only school of its kind in the country, and it may represent the biggest "duh" moment in Music City education. A city famous for its entertainment industry should have a school focusing on that field. Pearl-Cohn Entertainment Magnet is not an arts school. While it does give students many opportunities to excel in performing arts, the curriculum is much more focused on industry than on performance. Students take all of the core classes and even have the opportunity for advanced academics through several honors and AP classes available. But all classes are taught in the context of careers in:

  • Radio/TV production
  • Audio Engineering
  • Songwriting
  • Recording Industry
  • Media Publishing
  • Marketing Communication (designing, writing for and programming websites)
  • Personal Care Services

That means hands-on learning in the school's multi-million dollar recording studio or full television production studio. It means developing and managing artists through the school's fully operational record label (through Warner Music Nashville). It also means getting a well-rounded education that will allow you to walk right into a job or right onto a college campus, no matter where your talents lie.
