Metro educator wins a national Teacher of the Year award

We all know the Academy schools are fantastic and life changing for Metro students. After all, they give high school students a second chance at graduation, and have churned out more than 1,600 graduates in the last three years. These are all students who might have otherwise dropped out of school (and in some cases did). The good folks at the Simon Youth Foundation (SYF) have always been fans, and financially support these schools. Now they've given a huge national honor to one of our Academy teachers.

Shacora Moore, English language arts teacher at the Academy at Hickory Hollow, was awarded the SYF national Teacher of the Year award. She won the honor this week at the National Dropout Prevention Center conference in Atlanta.

Shacora with Michael Durnil, president of the Simon Youth Foundation, and Branden Van Vleck from San Antonio, Texas, Administrator of the Year.

Congratulations to Shacora and all of the Academy teachers who dedicate their lives to young graduates!
