Hume-Fogg & MLK students head to Chicago for science
Give a big, hearty congratulations to these Hume Fogg and MLK students:
- Chelsea Guo - Hume-Fogg
- Jennifer Peek - Hume-Fogg
- Tiannan Zhou - Hume-Fogg
- Michael Kessler - MLK
Why? They have been selected as Tennessee’s representatives to the American Junior Academy of Science meeting this month in Chicago. Why is that a big deal? Well, it's only one the largest and most prestigious national science conferences!
Their selection was based on their outstanding performance at the Tennessee Junior Academy of Science meeting last spring where they won first place for their project, “Genetic and Functional Characterization of β-glucosidase in Fungal Species under Assorted Conditions.” Yeah, I don't understand it either. But they do! And that's amazing.
This opportunity comes to them through our wonderful partnership with Vanderbilt University and the School for Science and Math at Vanderbilt. We are very proud of these students and the great work they are doing in and out of the classroom!
P.S. - If you're interested in applying for the School for Science and Math at Vanderbilt, applications are due this Friday!
