Artober Nashville: Plenty to do at area libraries during Fall Break

artober-logo_2013 There are oodles of things to do at Nashville Public Libraries this Fall Break. Don't believe us? CHECK OUT THIS JAM-PACKED SCHEDULE!

Many of these events are part of ARTOBER NASHVILLE which is a month-long celebration of arts and culture sponsored by the Nashville Public Library.

Here's just SOME of the highlights this week!


T-SHIRT REHAB Tuesday @ 2pm Goodlettsville Bring an old favorite t-shirt and make something hip and new out of it!

MANGA DRAWING FOR TEENS Tuesday @ 3pm East Branch Saturday @ 3:30pm Edmondson Pike Shirley Barker will show how her process for creating Japanese manga-style comics.

WATER COLOR PAINTING Tuesday @ 2:30 pm Edmonson Pike and later @ 4 pm Looby Saturday @ 1pm Richland Park Patricia Verano leads these classes to teach you how to paint a landscape, lakescape or subject of your own choice subject in this workshop using watercolors, brush techniques and mixed medium on watercolor paper. Beginner to Intermediate. Registration is required.  Call the library you wish to attend.

SWAN LAKE Wednesday @ 10:30am Inglewood Learn the ballet language of pantomime, dance styles from countries around the world and how various styles of music can influence the story in this quintessential ballet, set to music composed by the great Tchaikovsky.

MAGIC AND JUGGLING Friday @ 10:30am Main Branch Scott Cantrell will help you discover what the art of magic and juggling is really all about in this fun comedy show. Kids and adults alike will enjoy this program guaranteed to amaze, astound and astonish.

FANTASY DRAGON ART Thursday @ 4:30 pm Goodlettesville Shirley Baker will also give a class on to illustrate ancient mythical fantasy creatures in this easy step-by-step instruction on the basic anatomy of dragons, serpents, mythical warriors, Chinese dragons and more! Intended for the intermediate or advanced student, previous drawing experience is recommended.

YARN PAINTING Wednesday @ 3:30 pm Bordeaux Jairo Prado is will show you how to create yarn paintings inspired by the Huichol Indians of Jalisco and Nayarit, Mexico using historic techniques by pressing brightly colored yarn into wooden boards coated with resin or beeswax. Participants will illustrate a personal narrative using contemporary designs.


HAPPY (HULA) HOOPS Tuesday @ 6 Old Hickory Get moving with a fun workout using a typical hula hoop led by certified instructors that will leave adults and kids alike laughing, moving and asking for more. For all skill levels. Registration and two waivers required for participation.

MUSIC PRODUCTION WORKSHOP Every Thursday 3pm @ Green Hills Teen producers of all levels including songwriters, singers, rappers interested in producing their own music will learn how to make beats and music tracks using Logic Pro. Participating artists will have access to Studio NPL’s new recording studios.

HAMLET (PUPPET SHOW) Friday @ 4pm Main Library Shakespeare and puppetry! Wishing Chair Productions created 15 original puppets for this production. The haunting tale is effectively adapted for ages 8 and older. Please note: we strongly advise that only those 8 and older attend.

PETTING ZOO Wednesday @ 4:30 pm at Edmonson Pike  Thursday @ 4 pm at Edgehill You may already know the Country Music Hall of Fame is FREE all this week for students, but the CMHOF is also hosting a Petting Zoo at these locations.
