Meet the 2014-15 Teachers of the Year for Metro Schools

Metro Schools and the city of Nashville offer congratulations to the 2014-15 Teachers of the Year. This group of incredible educators have been selected by their peers as some of the very best the district has to offer.

See the list of all school-level Teachers of the Year.

“Every school has top-notch teachers, and it’s an honor every year to celebrate them,” said Chief Human Capital Officer Susan Thompson. “But Teacher of the Year represents a lot more than an awards ceremony. It’s a window into what our teachers value and the kinds of practices they feel are making a real difference for students. It’s teachers honoring teachers, so we get their perspective into who is leading the charge.”

Teachers of the Year are chosen by their colleagues in the classroom, with each school’s faculty naming one of their own as the school-level winner. Each of those winners is eligible for the big honor of district-wide Teacher of the Year. One winning teacher is chosen for each tier: elementary, middle and high. Overall winners are chosen by a committee made up of teachers, principals and district administrators. The finalists for the district-wide awards are:

  • Toni White, Glengarry Elementary School
  • Diane Winstead, Old Center Elementary School

  • Whitney Bradley, Bailey STEM Magnet Middle Prep
  • Tracy Decker, Bellevue Middle Prep

  • Tiffany Sherrell, Antioch High School
  • Martha Mitchell, McGavock High School

All Teachers of the Year will be celebrated at a formal dinner and awards ceremony May 11 at Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena, where district-level winners will be chosen. Metro’s Principals of the Year will also be named at the ceremony.
