New leadership for Charlotte Park Elementary School

To prepare for the upcoming school year, district leadership today announced a new principal for Charlotte Park Elementary School. Dr. Amy Downey, an experienced educator and leader in Metro Schools, is Charlotte Park’s new principal starting today, June 8. Dr. Downey has nearly 30 years experience in Metro Schools, with half that time spent in leadership roles. She served for 14 years as a teacher at Goodlettsville Middle before graduating to an assistant principal position at Wright Middle. From 2002-2011, she served as executive principal at DuPont Hadley Middle, where she led academic gains and developed a culture of collaborative leadership among teachers. Since 2011, Dr. Downey has been an executive lead principal working to supervise, support and mentor multiple principals throughout the district.

“Dr. Downey is a strong, veteran leader in Metro Schools,” said Chief Academic Officer Dr. Jay Steele. “She will serve the teachers, parents and students of Charlotte Park well and help the school to achieve greatness. I have every confidence that Charlotte Park will thrive under her stewardship.”
