PHOTOS: John Early Museum Magnet Middle Prep Opens New Museum

John Early Museum Magnet Middle School recently held a grand opening ceremony for its new museum, which will exhibit the large donation of artifacts from the Scarritt Bennett Center two years ago. The collection, which ranges from textiles and clothing to dolls and musical instruments, is housed in the more than 1,600 square feet for artifact storage, and 1,800 square feet for museum exhibit space. The five cultural themes in the exhibit are 1) Education, 2) Religion, 3) Entertainment, 4) Family, and 5) Community. Each theme has color coordinated components including a wall panel, floor case, and pedestal case with vitrine.

The museum will be used as an project-based instructional tool for students at John Early Museum Magnet Middle Prep as well as students across Middle Tennessee. John Early students will act as Junior Curators handling artifacts, maintaining artifact records, helping to install exhibit cases, and developing online and on site exhibits, according to the school's website.

In addition, students will be tour guides for museum visitors from other schools or during special events.
