Overton High School student shines as Prudential Spirit of Community Awards distinguished finalist for Tennessee

Board-Mtg_02-23-16_1618 A student at Overton High School has received national recognition for her efforts to bring awareness to bullying and suicide prevention.

The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards recognizes young people for making meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service.

Overton junior Chelstin Wildun was among 234 Distinguished Finalists announced by Prudential earlier this month.

Chelstin wrote, filmed and distributed a movie called "My Reality is Unreal," which dramatizes how bullying can lead to a child's decision to turn to suicide. Chelstin, motivated to act by the suicide of an eighth grade classmate, worked with a Tennessee legislator to pass a bill to create awareness of teenage suicide, and has been distributing DVDs to high schools and organizations for use in anti-bullying and suicide prevention programming.
