March 27 to April 7: Apply for Metro Schools prekindergarten programs!

Nashville families have more pre-K opportunities to choose from than ever before thanks to the continued expansion of pre-K seats in Nashville. There are diverse offerings for every family in every neighborhood. Some offer different hours, some have different eligibility requirements and others may require tuition on a sliding scale.

Metro Schools’ pre-K classrooms offer high-quality instruction based in purposeful play and discovery. Instead of large group instruction and worksheets, students garden, exercise and get to experience learning through interest-driven, child-centered activities.

1. Find the program that is the right fit for your child using the Pre-K program guide.

To make the many different offerings easier to navigate, Metro Schools has developed the Pre-K Program Guide, a short brochure designed to help parents find just the right fit for their families.

Pre-K Application Flyers:

English | Spanish | Arabic | Somali | Nepali

2. Gather all the documentation you need.

  • Birth certificate or record of birth — Children must turn four years old on or before August 15, 2017 (with some exceptions).
  • Proof of Davidson County residency — Current utility bill, telephone, lease or homeowner policy
  • Parent / Guardian photo ID — Driver’s license, state-issued ID passport or military ID

3. Visit one of the many Enrollment Centers across Nashville. Apply for prekindergarten by April 7 (3:00pm) to be included in the selection process later in the month.

Families will need to visit one of the Enrollment Centers with the above documents to receive a student identification number. The student identification number will be needed to apply for pre-K. After receiving your student identification number, you will still need to complete a pre-K application at the Enrollment Center or online.

After filling out and submitting an online application available online or at an Enrollment Center, families will receive next steps containing important dates for the selection process.

In the meantime, be sure to visit desired schools listed on the application, meet the principal and learn more about the pre-K program.

The Pre-K Selection Day is Monday, April 24.

The district has also partnered with Alignment Nashville and many other parents to develop, a pre-K and kindergarten readiness website. is a free resource for parents to replicate pre-K lessons at home or in private daycare. It takes parents step-by-step through the pre-K standards and what they can do to support them, including a readiness calendar with almost daily activities for parents and children to do together. also has a readiness assessment and transition guide so parents can determine if their children are ready to take that step.

Pre-K applications will also be at the 11 enrollment centers, Ross ELC, Ivanetta H. Davis ELC and the Family Information Center, located at the MNPS Central Office.
