Metro Schools teachers celebrated at Blue Ribbon Teacher Award ceremony
On Monday, April 30, 49 excellent Metro Schools educators were recognized for their incredible commitment to education and their classroom accomplishments by receiving Blue Ribbon Teacher Awards.
The Blue Ribbon Teacher Award, an award organized by the Nashville Public Education Foundation, celebrates excellence in education. Recipients were announced in February and celebrated during a ceremony at the Vanderbilt Chancellor’s Residence.

“In classrooms across this district we have many life-changing moments taking place every single day due to the expertise, commitment and caring of our great teachers,” said Dr. Shawn Joseph, director of schools. “The Blue Ribbon Teacher Award helps us shine the spotlight on some of our best teachers and more importantly, better demonstrate the value this community places on teaching excellence.”
Recipients are determined following a rigorous selection process that included a review of evidence of outstanding teaching practices by a team of experts. Applications of semi-finalists are then reviewed by a specially-convened community selection panel. This year, the focus was on recognizing teachers doing outstanding work in one of three areas – literacy instruction, support of English Language Learners and teacher leadership.
Monday night’s celebration proved to be a perfect way to kick off the end of the school year and recognize our teachers ahead of next week’s Teacher Appreciation Week.
