Is your student interested in a school with STEAM programs? Maybe your family is looking for a school that has before or aftercare? Does your child want to earn a college associate degree through the Early College High School?

In Metro Nashville Public Schools, families can choose to send their students to select schools across the district through the school choice application process. Families living in the Nashville-Davidson County area have more than 160 public schools in their neighborhoods and nearby communities. MNPS offers a wide variety of unique academic programs, supports and extracurricular activities across the city so that every student has access to schools that best meet their needs to prepare them for success.

The school choice application period opens Friday, Jan. 11. All students will be provided a school choice application booklet that day and applications will be available online at www.mnps.org/apply. The deadline for submission is Friday, Feb. 1.

Below is a step-by-step process for helping families navigate the school choice process:

First: Explore your school options! You can go to a zoned school, optional school or charter school.

Choose your zoned school using the Zone Finder. Research and find optional schools, including Charter options. Also, by using our brand-new School Match tool finding the right school for your student is even easier. Families can sort through schools by selecting the criteria of school offerings and academic experiences. Take a look here: http://schoolmatch.mnps.org/.

Second: Visit schools!

Once you have narrowed your search, make a visit to tour a school and meet school staff. Throughout the school choice application period, families may visit any school on any Tuesday for a tour. Tour Tuesday dates for 2019 are Jan. 15, 22 and 29; Feb. 5, 12, 19 and 26; and March 5 and 19. Call the school directly to schedule a time for your visit.

Third: Apply for your school of choice!

Once you’ve decided which school would be best for your student, it’s time to submit an application. Visit https://www.mnps.org/apply and follow the instructions. Families can submit an application anytime between Jan. 11 through Feb. 1. Application submission dates do not factor into the random lottery selection.
