This week’s #MNPSMVP is Jacobly Summers – Haynes Middle School
Jacobly Summers wants to have a successful basketball career and in order to be the best he knows he has to do what most young aspiring basketball players do – watch, study and play the game.
Since his sixth grade year, Summers has played basketball for Haynes Middle School. As shooting guard and small forward, he keeps points on the score board to help his team win. During one game he scored a personal best of 25 points.
“I was excited about scoring that many points during the game,” Summers said. “I wasn’t expecting to do that well but I did what I supposed to do, which was shoot the ball.”
Summers, now an eighth grader, is captain for the Wildcats. He helps his teammates with basketball drills and encourages them throughout practice. After practice, you might catch him practicing his slam dunk working to perfect the style like his favorite basketball player, Los Angeles Laker Lebron James.
He is already thinking about college and has his eyes set on a few Southeastern Conference schools like the University of Kentucky and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville to play basketball. He understands and is focused on keeping his grades up to attend those universities.
“Jacobly is respectful, punctual, coachable and hard working,” said Haynes Middle Boys’ Basketball Coach Joni Schroeder. “He is great student who hustles on and off the basketball court. Jacobly is truly one of kind and I am lucky to have him on my team.”
