Joya Burrell is not only wrapping up her senior year at Nashville Big Picture High School, but she is also closing out an internship with the Metro Nashville Public Schools’ Communications Department.

Burrell has served the Communications Department for the past two years. She has supported the school district in various capacities from drafting media releases to assisting at district-related events.

“I’ve enjoyed learning about the different aspects of the communications field and I have grown to love all aspects of marketing,” she said. “I also appreciate the bond that I made with the office staff.”

Burrell’s greatest challenge while attending high school and serving as a communications intern has not been the work itself but growing as an individual.

“It took me a while to come out of my shell and begin doing the work that I was given,” Burrell said.

Burrell’s future plans are to continue her education in Huntsville, Alabama, where she will attend Alabama A&M University in the fall to major in Entrepreneurship with a minor in Marketing.
