For the last four years, Metro Schools has participated in the Community Eligibility Program (CEP), the federal reimbursement program that allows school districts to offer lunch at no cost to students. Based on changing eligibility factors, MNPS is no longer eligible to participate system-wide and can no longer offer lunch at no-cost to all students at every school.

We know we have children who rely on our nutrition services program as a reliable source for a healthy meal. We will continue to provide free breakfast to all students in all schools and we will offer CEP to eligible schools.

FAQ

  • My student is in a non-CEP school. How do I apply for free- and reduced-lunch?

    • Eligible families will apply at the start of school if their student is enrolled at a non-CEP school.

    • Students will bring home a paper application the first day or first week of school.

    • Families can also apply online: https://www.myschoolapps.com/Application

  • When will this change take place?

    • These changes will be effective with the start of the 2018-2019 school year.

  • What will lunch cost?

  • What about breakfast?

  • I send my student to school with lunch everyday and I want to limit my student’s ability to charge food to his/her account. Can I?

    • No. While you can work with your student’s school to limit certain foods (ex: dessert), once a student places food on a tray and checks out, the student will not be denied food and his/her account will be charged.
