Learning Goals

Family Guides Support Learning at Home

What is Your Student in Kindergarten, First and Second Grade Learning and When?

Family Guides now are available for grades Kindergarten, 1, and 2 in Literacy - known as ELA - and Math that describe student learning goals for each of the four school year quarters.

Metro Schools developed the guides to help
families understand the most critical things students should know and be able to do, by grade level and by quarter, in ELA and Math.

Additionally, a Resources folder, organized by subject and grade, has information families can use at home to practice with their student.

Learning Goals Examples

Here are a couple of learning examples families will find in the learning goals guides.

Grade K, ELA First Quarter

Students will use a tripod grip when writing with a pencil.

Grade K, Math, Quarter 2

Students will be asked to find the number that makes 10 when given a number from one to nine.

For example, they may use linking tubes to find the number that makes 10 when added to 8.
