SSMV is a joint venture between MNPS and Vanderbilt University, where students spend a day each week taking classes and doing hands-on research. This year’s commencement exercises were SSMV’s 12th, and the keynote speaker was an alumnus from the program’s first year: Dr. Isaiah Bolden, a 2011 SSMV graduate who recently earned a Ph.D. in oceanography and is now working in Vanderbilt’s Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences.

This year’s SSMV graduates include three MNPS valedictorians and one salutatorian, and all 20 are planning to continue their education at top colleges and universities in Tennessee and across the country.
