HERO Program

Resources for Families Experiencing Homelessness

If your family is struggling with housing, we can help. Your child may qualify for HERO services if they lack a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence. Situations that may qualify include:

  • Staying in a shelter or transitional housing
  • Sharing housing (“doubled-up”) with friends or relatives due to lack of housing
  • Living in motels or campgrounds due to lack of other housing options
  • Staying in a car, abandoned building or place not meant for sleeping.

How HERO Can Help

The Homeless Education Resource Office (HERO) works to provide necessary resources, supports and referrals to help homeless children and youth to be successful in school and have a positive school experience. Services offered may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Help with school enrollment process and paperwork
  • Help with school issues, questions or concerns
  • Housing and community resource information
  • Assistance obtaining birth certificates, immunization records and school records
  • Parent education sessions and workshops
  • Referrals for dental, medical and mental health services
  • School supplies and backpacks
