Volunteer at a School Library

We seek volunteers to assist in our school libraries with weekly shelving and collection maintenance. We also need volunteers willing to help on occasion with special projects.

Volunteers help with things such as unpacking new books and assisting with collection moves, which may require lifting 10-20 pounds. Volunteers will not be working directly with students.

There are two kinds of Friends of MNPS School Libraries volunteer options: Weekly and Special Project Volunteers.

Weekly Vounteers

  • Shelve books
  • Unpack and process new books

Special Project Volunteers

  • Assist with collection moves
  • Assist with inventory

Volunteer Requirements

  • Be at least 18 years of age to volunteer.
  • Complete and pass a background check through PENCIL prior to volunteering
  • Complete a training session with MNPS Library Services.
  • Work with MNPS Library Services to be placed with a school in need.
  • Weekly Volunteers commit to a regular schedule.
  • Special Project Volunteers only will be called on occasion as the need arises.

How to Register to Volunteer

  • Please register to receive more information about next steps for volunteering.
    • Disregard any registration date on the form because specialized training will be offered to potential volunteers after they pass the background check.
