Transportation
Our school district is committed to providing safe and efficient transportation for our students.
All students who attend their school of zone, and who live more than 1.25 miles from school (1.5 miles for high schools), are eligible for school bus transportation. Exceptions are made for certain areas where unsafe walking conditions exist.
Additionally, free public transportation is available to all Metro Schools High School students and Middle School students who attend an MNPS Optional School.
Does Your Student Ride the School Bus?
We use Tyler's Versatrans Routing and Planning, a state-of-the-art computer mapping and routing program, to create the most efficient bus routes possible. Our bus stops are not generally door-to-door bus service.
Find My Bus Stop
The Find My Bus Stop online tool provides families with the planned school bus route and bus stop information.
To find your student's route and stop:
- Use the Find My Bus Stop online search tool.
- Enter your student's grade and your address for the result to generate.
Track Your Student's Bus
- Download the Versatrans MyStop app in the Google Play Store or the Apple App store
- Select Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools
- Enter the Username, which is the Student ID, and your student's date of birth as the password (MMDDYYYY)
Actual route/stop times could vary due to driver shortage route coverage, traffic or mechanical breakdowns.

Students Also May Use Public Transportation or Receive Special Arrangements
Free Public Transit
MNPS provides transportation only to students who attend their zoned school, but there are some exceptions and options.
- Public bus transportation through WeGo Public Transit is provided at no cost to all Metro Schools high school students through the Stride program.
- The free service also is available to middle school students attending an MNPS optional school, with the exception of charter middle schools. Contact your MNPS middle school office for parental permission forms and eligibility information.
- Some charter schools provide their own transportation. Contact individual schools to determine transportation availability.
Exceptional Education, Special Services & Pre-K
If your child is in Exceptional Education, qualifies for Special Services, or is in Pre-K, transportation arrangements must be made through the office from which your child receives these services.

Does Your Student Need to be Picked Up
or Dropped Off Someplace Other Than Home?
An Alternative Transportation Request form must be submitted if you want your child to be picked up or dropped off at a location different than your neighborhood pickup location. Requests are approved, with limits.

Transportation Bus Pass
To Be Filled Out By School Staff Only
- A Transportation Bus Pass form is available to the local school representative to allow a student who is eligible for GENED bus transportation to ride when they are newly enrolled at the school. This form may also be used during the school year for current students eligible to ride, but they do so infrequently and are not on the assigned bus route and need to ride unexpectedly.
- This form and/or a temporary student bus card will alert the bus driver to drop off or pick up the student at an assigned bus stop location.
- School staff should contact the assigned Transportation Supervisor assigned to your school, or send your questions to our internal transportation customer service email.
