MNPS wants to bring East Nashville Magnet High School and East Nashville Middle School back together.
If approved by the Metropolitan Nashville Board of Education, the schools will rejoin at the 110 Gallatin Road campus in the 2019-20 school year. In 2016, the middle school program was moved 1.5 miles away to the former Bailey Middle School building at 2000 Greenwood Avenue with the expectation that expanding student populations would require the extra space.
That student growth has not happened. Meanwhile, school families, faculty and staff have expressed a desire to return to a single campus. Many families have children at both schools, and teaching students in one location could generate significant savings in facilities and operating costs.
The proposal is part of an ongoing discussion about how to match student needs with MNPS resources. MNPS Next will take this discussion community wide later this spring, hosting meetings with parents and community groups.
