Choose your Zoned School

A prolonged search for your child's new school may not be necessary. The perfect school for your student may be right around the corner!

Students are automatically assigned to schools within the zone where they live.

  • To determine your zoned school, enter your residential address into the Zone Finder.

  • Learn more about your neighborhood school.  Visit our school list page to find links to school websites.

Be sure to visit your zoned school's website and, if possible, tour the school and meet with staff to learn more about what your school offers.  During the COVID-19 pandemic, most schools are offering virtual open houses or video tours for prospective families.

Choose a School Outside your Neighborhood Zone

If you would like to enroll your child in a school outside your school zone, you will have to submit an application for that school. Only schools that participate in the Optional Application program are eligible to have students from other zones attend and school bus transportation is not provided.

  • You can check availability and submit an application for an optional school during the annual application process, held each spring. Families who are new to MNPS can also apply year-round to schools that have available space.

  • Some of the schools that accept optional applications have entrance requirements that your child must meet or fulfill to be considered.

  • Before submitting your application, explore the School Finder site to find a school with the location or programs that best fit your student's academic goals or interests. Once you know which schools interest you, visit their websites, attend virtual or in-person tours and open houses to learn more to see if the school is a good fit for your child.

Apply to a Charter

Your third option is to apply to a charter school. A charter school is a publicly-funded, privately-operated school.  Davidson County has several charter schools available for students at all grade levels.  You can learn more about each school by visiting its website and contacting the school for more information or to schedule a tour.
