In the fall of 2018, Glenn Enhanced Option School and Caldwell Enhanced Option School consolidated to form Ida B. Wells Elementary on the old Caldwell campus.

The Ida B. Wells faculty and staff commit to:

  • creating rigorous lesson plans that allow students to discuss, analyze and question daily
  • having high expectations and holding students accountable consistently
  • promoting lifelong learning for themselves and their students
  • creating a welcoming, engaging, and encouraging environments for all families and stakeholders
  • providing students with a positive and safe environment through Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and restorative practices
  • promoting a culture of organization, collaboration and success

At Ida B. Wells Elementary, named for and encouraged by the legacy of a great journalist and activist, students pride themselves in being great writers and thinkers.  The Ida B. Wells mascot was voted on by students, who chose to be the Warriors. Ida B Wells teacher and student

Staff members fight for rigor, relevance and relationships that give their students a guaranteed experience of belonging and opportunities to be successful in both academic achievement and growth.

“Continue to strive for excellence in all you do,” executive principal Dexter Adams said.  “Failure at Ida B. Wells is never an option. Positive relationships build strong learning communities!”

Ida B. Wells is the first Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) elementary in Metro Nashville Public Schools in which a big push is put on college and career readiness through WICOR: Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading for both students and staff.

The school’s mission is to ensure all students in Pre-K through fifth grade have access to high levels of learning through grade- level standards while demonstrating positive behavior, to promote college and career readiness in a global society. The vision is to become a model school of excellence that ensures all students are college and career ready, are lifelong learners, and are placed on a path to success beyond measure.
