Pennington Elementary is a small neighborhood school with a family-centered, welcoming atmosphere. Located less than one mile from the Grand Ole Opry in Donelson, it has managed to remain a hidden gem in the Nashville community.  Pennington students

Pennington is a great place for students to learn and grow both academically and socially, offering extracurricular activities such as Chorus Club and Morning Mile Club. Faculty and staff also work diligently on strategies that engage students on a more individual basis. Pennington believes the key to the school’s success is a shared effort between engaged parents and amazing staff members.

Pennington’s Every Student Known strategies demonstrate the school’s commitment to Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs and initiatives. These programs increase academic achievement, promote positive social interaction and help students develop lifelong competencies.

One of those SEL programs is Move This World. This social-emotional learning training uses interactive videos, creative expression and movement to help students develop emotional intelligence skills for long-term well-being. Student peacekeepers are selected weekly for each classroom. They are especially proud of their fourth-grade WPEN news crew, who charge the student body and administrators to Move This World daily.  Pennington Triple A Achievers students

Triple A Achievers recognition is another Every Student Known strategy. Students who have good attendance (no more than 5 absences, tardies and early dismissals combined), great attitudes (measured by teachers and staff) and good grades are recognized for their achievements. Students get to earn this honor after each grading period.

They are a Kindness Certified School, allowing students to participate in the Great Kindness Challenge, a positive and proactive bullying prevention initiative. Students work together to complete a series of random acts of kindness. To promote kindness throughout the academic year, students can earn Kindness Cash as an incentive to redeem for tangible rewards or participation in schoolwide events.

Principal Jackie Kinzer’s school motto is “Be passionate about Pennington’s culture and remain positive, because it inspires others."

Pennington’s history can be traced as far back as the early 1900s in a different location. The present-day facility opened in 1959 to help relieve overcrowding in the Donelson school community. Despite location changes, Pennington kept the name of the original school’s lumber benefactor, John Pennington.
The proud Pennington Panthers show their school pride by wearing red, white and black.
