In 1979 Whites Creek High School welcomed students from all over the MNPS school district.

The editor of that first year’s annual, “SPECTRUM,” gave this historical account of the students in the first class to enter Whites Creek High School:

“Jackets bearing school names such as North, Joelton, Maplewood, Goodlettsville, East, and Madison could be seen filing through the front doors along with a variety of school colors. Students left many memories and friends behind and took pride in the fact that they were the first and, as such, were pioneers of a new dimension.”

Whites Creek, commonly known as “The Creek,” is named for the waterway that runs behind the campus. Whites Creek athletes

The school mascot for the first half of their inaugural school year was the “Cardinal.” That was quickly changed mid-year to the king “Cobra” during their dominating sports season. The name change was voted on by the student body and attributed to the snake’s characteristics.

The “Cobras Rise UP” motto is demonstrated through the school’s successes:

Twenty-five percent of the student body is enrolled in a college-level/Advanced Placement course for the 2021-2022 academic school year.

Whites Creek recently opened the first and only MNPS indoor multipurpose sports facility for athletics, band practices, and community meetings and events.

Whites Creek High School’s Every Student Known strategies include school counselors sitting down with students one on one to create their schedules and ensure their academic needs are met instead of relying on scheduling software.

Student schedules include two designated Cobra times – one for academics and another for social and emotional support. Every student in the school building is connected to an adult through student-generated clubs.

“At Whites Creek High School, we promote academic excellence for every Cobra, every day that establishes college and career preparedness through collective efficacy in a safe and thriving environment,” said Executive Principal Dr. Brian Mells. “We ensure all of our teachers, students, and parents work collaboratively for the academic and social and emotional growth of our Cobras.”
