CIGNA WELL-BEING AWARD RECOGNIZES DISTRICT'S PRIORITY OF EMPLOYEE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING

Nashville, Tenn. - Oct. 25, 2017 - Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) is the recipient of the annual Cigna Well-Being Award for demonstrating a strong commitment to improving employee health through a workplace wellness program. This is the second award in less than a month recognizing the district's culture of health for all employees.

In the past year, MNPS has made several enhancements to its ongoing efforts to support the well-being of its workforce. In May, the district opened the Employee Health & Wellness Center, a full-service center that includes a fitness facility, workout classes, Vanderbilt Health Clinic, physical therapy and psychiatric nursing services and a full pharmacy. The Employee Health & Wellness Center joins the district's fleet of Vanderbilt Health Clinics, which are placed strategically throughout the district and give employees access to low-cost and convenient health care in their neighborhoods.

“We are honored and proud to receive this award in recognition of our district's work to positively impact our employees' quality of life. The Cigna Well-Being Award recognizes our shift to a culture of health and happiness and encourages us that we are heading in the right direction,” said Dr. Shawn Joseph, Director of Schools. “Our people are our greatest asset and one way to affect change for our students is to help our employees be healthy in every area of their lives.”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), U.S. employers lose more than $225 billion each year in productivity due to employee health problems. Cigna created the Well-Being Award to recognize employer clients that have a positive impact on the health and well-being of their workforce. Applicants are evaluated based on the core components of their wellness program, including the goals, implementation, incentives, and leadership engagement and employee participation. All applications are reviewed and judged by an internal, multi-departmental review committee from Cigna.
