Getting To Know Your Gifted and Talented Student

Supporting Academically Talented and Gifted Students with Dyslexia

Dyslexia, a common learning difference, can affect even the most academically talented and gifted K-8 students. These young learners often possess exceptional strengths in areas such as problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking. By providing tailored support and resources, we can help them overcome reading challenges and thrive in their academic pursuits. Encouraging a positive and inclusive learning environment ensures that all students, regardless of their learning differences, can reach their full potential.

There are several resources available to support academically talented and gifted students with dyslexia:

  • International Dyslexia Association (IDA): The IDA provides fact sheets and resources specifically for twice-exceptional (2e) students, including those who are both gifted and dyslexic.
  • Minnesota Neuropsychology, LLC: They offer insights and support for gifted students with dyslexia, focusing on their unique strengths and challenges.
  • Nashville offers several resources, including the Nashville Dyslexia Center, Tennessee Dyslexia Centers in Brentwood, and The Roberts Academy and Dyslexia Center at Vanderbilt University.
