2025-2026 School Options Application Information

The School Options application window is open from January 21 to February 7, 2025

There's a school for every student in Metro Schools! Families interested in attending a school outside of their zone can complete the School Options application between January 21, 2025, and February 7, 2025, to be included in the random selection process.

The Cooke Young Scholars Program Application Window is Open from February 5 to April 30, 2025

The Cooke Young Scholars Program is a selective five-year, pre-college scholarship for exceptionally promising 7th grade students with financial need. It offers comprehensive academic and college advising, along with financial support for school, Cooke-sponsored summer programs, internships, and other enrichment opportunities. The program aims to help students maximize their high school experience and prepare for success at top-performing colleges.

The application is opens from February 5 to April 30. 

GATE Curriculum Corner: New Units Coming Spring 2025

K- Primary Education Thinking Skills (PETS Critical Thinking Curriculum)/Zoology

Students will engage with intriguing characters and stories while developing visual, spatial, and evaluative thinking skills. They may also begin applying these skills to zoology concepts.

Grades 1 and 2: Once Upon a Design

Students will explore traditional fairy tales and their fractured retellings, comparing the two. They will engage in higher-order thinking questions, literacy activities that delve into depth and complexity, and STEM projects, all centered around the essential question: “How would the conflict in a story change based on who is telling it?”

Grades 3 to 5  Encounters With Archetypes

Students will examine patterns, symbols, and motifs associated with common archetypes by analyzing fictional and informational texts, speeches, and visual media. They will explore questions such as “How do archetypes reflect the human experience?” and “How do archetypes reveal human strengths and weaknesses?”

Grade 6: Utopia and The Mysteries of History

Students will explore how societies develop sustainable living practices that maintain ecosystem equilibrium while providing resources. They will consider whether it is possible to design a sustainable, utopian city that balances cost, societal needs, and environmental impact.

Grades 7 and 8: The Pursuit of Justice

Continuing from the fall semester, students will explore concepts of truth and justice. They will investigate mock crime scenes and analyze evidence to understand the role of forensic scientists in the justice system.

Getting To Know Your Gifted and Talented Student

Students often form deep friendships based on shared interests and intellectual curiosity. While competition can motivate them to excel, cooperation is crucial for developing teamwork skills and sharing diverse perspectives. Balancing competition and cooperation helps them grow both personally and academically.
